The Lists don’t Handle This
Published On: April 10, 2015

The photo shoot is always a little scary.  It’s the one point in the whole book making process where I pull in a bunch of other people, assemble them (and the knitting) in one place at one time, and expect magic to happen.

And somehow, it always does.

I’m pretty sure this is because I have amazingly obliging friends, a really good photographer, an awfully nifty Boy, and a penchant for advance planning.  The combination seems to work well. That doesn’t mean there aren’t occasional hiccups (like “oh surprise, it’s pneumonia” or “what do you mean, we lost the knitting? How exactly did we lose the knitting?”).

This time it was rain.

I’ve actually had really good luck with photo shoot weather.  It’s occasionally been a bit warm or a little chilly, but we’ve never had really bad weather for a shoot.  This time we got rain.  Buckets and buckets and buckets of rain.  It rained all night the night before.  It rained that morning as we loaded the car and drove to pick up the photographer. It rained as we drove to the location.  But then, about 10 minutes before we got there, it stopped.

Now don’t misunderstand me.  The sun did not come out.  The clouds stayed put and menaced us the whole time.  The ground was soggy (see that bit above about obliging friends who will clamber around on wet walls and stand in soggy flower beds and look good doing it).  But it didn’t rain.  We got the shots (oh my goodness did we ever get them).  Then, just as we were loading the car to come home, the skies opened up again.  If it had to rain, the timing couldn’t have been any better.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a pile of pictures to sort through (and exclaim over…there will be a fair bit of that going on, too).  I may even share some in the next week or two.  But for now, for now I’m just going to enjoy them all by myself.
